Why Should I Care About Content Layout?

We get asked quite a bit by businesses how to lay out their social content. Should there be a rhyme or reason to what they post at certain times throughout the month? We tend to work in 4 steps for content layout planning every month and we find this works for most companies, no matter the size or structure.

Here's how

1) Events / Promotions

This is the most structured of your posts because it has to follow a timeline as a lead up to an event. There's a natural scheduling that already takes place, and the rest of your content falls on the calendar around it. These posts take priority.

2) Educational

These posts are meant to peak interest and make the reader ask questions to elaborate on a topic - increasing your audience circle apart from those who already know about the industry you are in or the services you provide.

3) About You / Personal

This is where you get to show the heart behind why you do what you do. Engagement happens in the comments, and the share/like/repost/comment is your endgame - any of these is a win because you know you hit home on an emotional connection level.

4) Community / Outward Focus

Take the focus off yourself and your business in these posts and instead lift up others around you in support. Cross-tagging/posting is your bread and butter for building each other's demographics and audiences and these posts benefit both your businesses.

Ultimately, the more effective your captions and visuals are in sparking spread throughout categories 2-4, the better your results for your category 1 - the events or promotions - because it'll cause more eyes to be reached by those posts. So take your time on the engaging interaction posts (2-4) and spark conversations with your audience under them, and then make sure there's a follow-through on your event or promotion posts (actionable step) to click, subscribe, book, register, shop, or reserve.
